“The History of Triathlon”

Fact №1
“How It All Began”- San Diego, California, 1974.

One ordinary summer evening, members of the San Diego Track Club decided to shake up their usual running workout.
They were tired of doing the same runs over and over and suggested:
“Let’s add swimming and cycling — whoever finishes everything first wins!”
And just like that, almost as a joke, the first race in the history of modern triathlon was born.
The format was simple:
Swim: 460 m
Bike: 8 km
Run: 9 km
Forty-six participants lined up at the start — no fancy gear, wetsuits, or aerobars.
No one knew how to eat during the race, where to switch from cycling to running, or even why they were doing it.
The main goal was simply to try.
Thirty-five people made it to the finish line, and that’s when a brand-new sport — triathlon — was born.
Now, half a century later, triathlon has united millions of people — from amateurs to Olympic champions.
And it all started with one evening and 46 enthusiasts who just wanted to make their training a bit more exciting
