Below are the main general rules for triathlon:

  2. Swimming rules: Participants must follow designated markers and steadily move forward. Contact with other participants may be restricted, and the use of impermissible methods such as pushing opponents is prohibited.
  3. Cycling rules: Participants must obey traffic rules during the cycling leg. This includes maintaining speed limits, overtaking, and obeying referee instructions. Impermissible methods such as using prohibited side roads or receiving assistance from vehicles or other participants are prohibited.
  4. Running rules: Participants must follow the designated running course. Assistance from other participants or external individuals during running is prohibited. Restrictions on contact and impermissible methods also apply.
  5. Transition zone: Transition zones are areas where participants transition from one discipline to another. Participants must adhere to the rules and referee instructions in these zones. The use of impermissible methods such as cycling in the running zone is prohibited.
  6. Officiating: Judges monitor compliance with rules and participant safety. They have the authority to issue warnings, penalties, or take disciplinary measures in case of rule violations.
  7. Safety: Safety is a priority in all aspects of triathlon. Participants must follow safety rules, including the use of protective gear, obeying traffic rules, and participating in pre-race briefings. Organizers are also responsible for ensuring safety, including the presence of medical personnel and rescue services on-site.
  8. Anti-doping rules: Triathlon adheres to anti-doping rules established by international and national anti-doping organizations. Participants may be subjected to doping control at any time before, during, or after the competition.
  9. Completion rules: Participants must cross the finish line within the established time frame to be considered as completing the race. If a participant is unable to continue the race for any reason, they must inform the organizers or referees.

It's important to note that triathlon rules may vary slightly depending on the specific event or organizing body conducting the competition. Therefore, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of each individual competition before participating in a triathlon.
